The Snowdon Alumni

Objectives
Our objectives are:
- Peer support, including mentoring support for current students.
- Providing social and networking opportunities amongst alumni.
- Encouraging more disabled young people to consider further and higher education.
- Helping to rate the quality of disability-related provision at educational establishments (with a view to improving quality and sharing best practice).
- Supporting and promoting Snowdon Award Scheme events and activities.
- Working with other organisations that have similar aims, such as AimHigher.
The beginning
A small group of past Snowdon Award recipients came together and developed the concept of an Alumni Group. Click to find out more about how we started.
Our unique position
Not only do we share an overwhelmingly strong sense of gratitude for the financial support provided by the Snowdon Award Scheme, but also we have an unparalleled understanding of the challenges facing disabled students, and a wealth of information that could be of great use to others in a similar position. By collating and sharing this information, we aim to help others and influence change at the highest level.
As well as mentoring those already benefiting from Snowdon Awards, we aim to share experiences and to inspire and encourage other disabled people to pursue academic study.
Our launch event
The Snowdon Alumni was formally launched in London in March 2010 to coincide with Lord Snowdon’s 80th birthday.
Our online forum
In July 2010, we set up an online forum for past and present Snowdon students via a Facebook group. If you are a past awardee and you haven’t received an invitation to join, we may not have a current e-mail address for you. To receive an invitation, please contact us to let us have your up to date e-mail details. This forum is a first step towards the first two above stated objectives.
Fundraising
The Snowdon Alumni’s first fundraising initiative was the Snowdon Rowing Challenge.
