The Snowdon Alumni
In March 2010, The Scheme is formally launching an alumni group. If you have received a Snowdon Award in the past please contact The Snowdon Alumni to find out more.
Objectives
Our objectives are:
- Peer support, including mentoring support for current students.
- Providing social and networking opportunities amongst alumni.
- Encouraging more disabled young people to consider further and higher education.
- Helping to rate the quality of disability-related provision at educational establishments (with a view to improving quality and sharing best practice).
- Supporting and promoting Snowdon Award Scheme events and activities.
- Working with other organisations that have similar aims, such as AimHigher.
The beginning

Our unique position
Not only do we share an overwhelmingly strong sense of gratitude for the financial support provided by the Snowdon Award Scheme, but also we have an unparalleled understanding of the challenges facing disabled students, and a wealth of information that could be of great use to others in a similar position. By collating and sharing this information, we aim to help others and influence change at the highest level.
As well as mentoring those already benefiting from Snowdon Awards, we aim to share experiences and to inspire and encourage other disabled people to pursue academic study.
Our launch event
The Snowdon Alumni is being formally launched in London in March 2010 and is timed to coincide with Lord Snowdon’s 80th birthday. We plan to present him with a book of messages from past Snowdon Award recipients and others who have supported the Scheme. If you would like to contribute, please send us your message for Lord Snowdon. (Your message could include comments on the impact of your Snowdon Award, achievements you are proud of, and what you are doing now.)
Fundraising
The Snowdon Alumni’s first fundraising initiative is the Snowdon Rowing Challenge.
