The Snowdon Survey - news update

The results of The Snowdon Survey 2006 were published in November and later that month, Lord Morris of Manchester raised a question in the House of Lords, asking the Government what consideration has been given to the Survey’s findings and whether action will be taken as a result.

Lord Adonis (the Minister for Schools) replied, recognising that there is room for improvement. He paid tribute to the Scheme’s work and advised that the Survey’s findings would be used to inform a new cross-government strategy for learners with learning difficulties and disabilities.

A number of other large organisations have also told us that they fully endorse the findings of the Survey and the recommendations it makes. These include RNIB, RNID, SCOPE and NUS Disabled Students. Additionally, some have provided further evidence to support the findings.

In a meeting with the Department for Education and Skills (DFES) in January, Paul Alexander (our chief executive,) was told there is an expectation that action will be taken as a result of our survey and they have promised to maintain a dialogue with us. So, watch this space!!
