How do we collect information?

We may obtain personal information from you when you ask about our activities, register with us, send or receive an e-mail, buy our goods online, make a donation or otherwise contact us. We may also receive information about you from third parties, for example from a friend who wants to tell you about the website.

What information do we collect?

The information we might collect includes your full name, date of birth, e-mail address, postal address, telephone number, fax number, credit/debit card info or bank account details (if setting up a Direct Debit).

All the forms and transactions on this site meet with data protection requirements. If you are making a donation or enquiring about The Snowdon Awards Scheme we will ask you whether you'd like to receive future mailings and updates from us, and also whether you would like to receive mailings from other selected charities and organisations. If you choose not to, your name will not be put forward in this way.

How do we use this information?

We will use your personal information to provide you with the services, products or information you have requested, for administration purposes and to further our charitable aims, including for fundraising activities. We may need to share your information with our service providers, associated organisations and agents for these purposes.

We may share your information with other organisations who are supportive of our aims and objectives. We will only use your personal information for direct marketing purposes if we are permitted to do so by law or if we have your consent. You can change your mind at any time by writing to us or emailing info@snowdonawardscheme.org.uk

Use of Cookies

  1. What is a Cookie?

A Cookie is a small string of text that is stored on your PC's hard disk, unless you delete it (or it expires). It is not a computer programme, and cannot harm the data on your PC. The Snowdon Award Scheme uses session cookies to ensure that you can interact with our websites successfully. These will record data entered by you so that it is available from one screen to the next, but it is not recorded or held by us after you leave our websites. These session cookies exist only as long as the browser remains open. Once the browser is closed, the cookie is deactivated.

  2. How do I know when I have received a Cookie?

If you want to know each time, you need to switch on the 'Alert before accepting Cookies' option in your browser.

  3. Should I switch on the alert?

It's up to you. However, increasingly, sites are using more and more Cookies that expire when you switch off your browser; it can become tiresome to see so many alerts.

  4. What are Cookies for?

Cookies have two functions. The first is to 'maintain state of an application'. Basically, this means that each time you come back to a site, you begin where you left off. For instance, you may only need to register to enter a site once. The second function is to track your path through the site.

  5. What does that mean?

Tracking your path can help the site provider optimise the site, based on popular paths or pages. You may feel that this knowledge of your use is an intrusion into your privacy (the site provider could set up a profile of your particular habits). However, bear in mind that no personally identifiable data is being collected.

  6. What is your policy on this?

We never pass statistical data on to 3rd parties.

  7. Should I delete Cookies?

Again, it's up to you. If you feel that Cookies are an intrusion into your privacy, delete them. However, we recommend that you do not delete them. This will usually decrease your access to useful information on subsequent visits to the site.

  8. Can Cookies be stolen from my PC?

No. The information stored on your PC will only be transmitted back to the server that sent them in the first place.

  9. How do I delete Cookies?

Go to your Cookies folder, usually called 'Cookies' on your hard drive (C:\windows\cookies, for example), select them and delete them in the normal way.

How do we protect personal information?

We use a secure server when you make a donation via our website. We also take appropriate measures to ensure that the information you disclose to us remains secure, accurate, up to date and kept only for as long as is necessary and for the purposes for which it is used.

Will we disclose the information we collect to outside parties?

As indicated above, we may pass your information to our service providers, agents and associated organisations, and, if you have consented, to other organisations who may share our objectives. We may also need to disclose your information if required to do so by law.

Your consent

By providing us with your personal data, including sensitive personal data such as your name, postal address, e-mail contact details or banking and credit card, you consent to the collection and use of any information you provide in accordance with the above purposes and this privacy statement.

Right of access

You have the right to ask for a copy of the information we hold about you and to have any inaccuracies in your information corrected.

Changes

If your personal details change, please help us to keep your information up to date by notifying us at the above address or emailing us on info@snowdonawardscheme.org.uk

We reserve the right to amend this privacy statement. If we do so we will post notice of the change on our website and you will be deemed to have accepted such changes.
